In 1937 Mr. Pinkston bought The Pinson Shop, at the corner of Short and Broadway Streets in Lexington, Kentucky. The shop was a general repair and hardware store. He renamed the shop Pinkston's Turf Goods and opened a harness shop in the back of the store. In 1945 his son-in-law, Paul Ladd, Sr. began running the harness shop. In 1985 Pinkston's moved to it's current location at 1098 West High Street, Lexington Kentucky where it is run by Paul Ladd's son Paul Ladd Jr.. When you walk through the front door at Pinkston's you are greeted warmly and many that engage Mr. Ladd Sr. in conversation are treated to a history story about Lexington and the horse business. Mr. Ladd has known many a legend (horse or person) in the horse industry and has even been in the company of the Queen of England on her visits to the Bluegrass. Since 1945 Paul Ladd Sr. has been at every Keeneland Race Meet mingling with all who make Keeneland such a magical place. Pinkston's Turf Goods is a part of the fabric of the thoroughbred life in Kentucky.
